David and Jeremy both have Defence Security Clearances to Secret level.

Ranicar and Nicholls Consulting (RNC) was registered in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, in July 2001. The proprietors are Oceanic Solutions Pty Ltd and Nicholls and Nicholls Pty Ltd. The main business of the Partnership is consulting in the defence industry.

Ranicar and Nicholls Consulting (RNC) combines the skills of a command qualified submariner with those of a defence scientist to focus on the interface between Defence organisations, industry, and academia. The partners have an established, credible network of contacts across Australia, Europe, and the USA.

In 2001, David Nicholls returned to Australia from 3 years exchange duty with the Commander US Submarine Force, Pacific Fleet. He retired from the Royal Australian Navy in July 2001. He has extensive knowledge of current operational procedures together with management proficiency in submarine programs - particularly combat/weapon system capability development and tactical analysis.

Jeremy Ranicar has had two, long-term postings to the Australian High Commission in London with responsibilities for defence science liaison across a broad spectrum of defence and dual use technologies throughout the UK and western Europe. He is a multi-disciplinary scientist with extensive experience as a Government representative and diplomat, and also as a commercial business development manager, company director, and project manager.

The current focus of RNC's business is undersea warfare, with a particular emphasis on submarine technologies such as through water communication systems and tactical data management systems. However, RNC is not confined to maritime issues and actively pursues opportunities across a broad range of military capabilities and technologies.
